Impact of Covid-19 on kids

No doubt, 2020 pandemic has impacted all segments of life but we can say it's a crisis for today's children. Kids have been affected in terms of their academic, social, cognitive and mental development. This is the most critical period in our children's life.

As a parent, I can feel that there is a sense of fear in them which wasn't there pre-covid. My daughter who was always ready to go down to the park area for playing feels sceptical now. Those were the golden days of our lifetime. Major setback for them was the closure of the schools worldwide. In short, "no school, no fun".
Everything relates to this as "no school, no friends, no playdates, no birthday parties, no picnics and so on". The list is long.

Instead, everything has become online be it learning, shopping, games even parties also. So, this lifestyle today has only added lethargy in the children. It has also promoted unhealthy eating habits in front of laptop, I-pad, TV screens, mobile phones etc. Today children are becoming physically and emotionally weaker. They have developed behavioural issues, restlessness and attention difficulties. So, parents should monitor the behaviour of their children.

Cyber risk pose a great threat to the children today as now major time they are spending on internet. Although they have become exceptionally good in their IT-skills but they can be exploited by few hackers. Then it becomes important to educate them not to disclose their personal information to strangers on the internet. Restrict their time on the internet and keep a close watch on their online activities.  There should be some technology free time in a day for children and parents both.

We can't ignore the fact that it would be difficult to return to the normal as there would be new normal guidelines once the school reopens. But I literally feel scared to imagine how kids would tackle the situation. We have to live with this virus.

Kids are sensitive and responsive to their environment. So, it's the parents responsibility to make a small effort for them to overcome this issue. Parents should have honest, calm and open conversations with children. Share your personal experiences with the child. I am sure they will enjoy listening to your stories. Play boardgames with them whenever possible.
Parents should be able to handle the stress of the child. Always listen to their necessary needs and desires.

Also try to encourage your child to innovate new things without the fear of failure. This will make your child critical thinker in life ahead.

Children should be aware of all the necessary precautions to be taken. Let us inculcate few good habits in them like social distancing, hygiene and importance of wearing face masks now onwards. These habits will help them in future also to fight with other diseases then.

So, let us all pledge to make a better tomorrow for our children on this beautiful planet.

Together we Fight!
